Is Your Website Secure?

Important: Not Securing Your Website with the "S" Could Cost You

Have you noticed that all major websites addresses now begin with "HTTPS" instead of just "HTTP"? That one little letter can make all the difference in the world for your chiropractic website. To start with, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (http) is a system for transmitting and receiving information across the Internet. (https): Secure Hyper Text Transfer Protocol was developed to allow authorization and secured transactions.

Without getting too technical, there are many security advantages to having an https website over just http. But probably the biggest advantage is that Google cares about this.  A short time ago, an article appeared on the website, Search Engine Land, with the headline, "Google To Give Secure Sites A Ranking Boost."  This alone is worth making sure your website is secure.

In the long, run all websites will need to be https. The ones that do not convert may begin to not be viewable in the major browsers such as Chrome and Firefox. Additionally, any exchange of information, such as found on a submission page, may not work, or will produce a security message on your browser. This would scare most visitors off unsecured websites.

Now You Know Secures Our Subscribers' Websites

Now You Know has taken a proactive step forward in the ongoing battle for security of our subscribers' websites. Unlike most all other chiropractic website providers, NYK websites now have the added benefit of being an SSL and HTTPS enabled websites.

Look at the address of any NYK Doctor's website in your browser and you will see "Secure" or "https" for the full URL address.

What does having a secure website do for you?

  • Better cyber security for your website against hackers and snoopers.

  • Improves search engine performance.

  • Prevents Internet Service Providers from tracking your visitors actions on your website.

  • Better compliance with HIPAA as well as PCI DSS requirements and NIST Guidelines.

  • Secure submission information for appointment requests and newsletter submissions.

  • Your website will be trusted by most all browsers and visitors.

Why did we secure our doctor's websites?

In September of 2016, Google announced it would start flagging unencrypted HTTP websites with password or credit card form fields as insecure. This began the first of this year with the Google Chrome browser, and later, Mozilla Firefox. While your Now You Know ADJUSTable websites aren't affected by this initial penalty by Google, it's only a matter of time before SSL and HTTPS will be required for all websites on the internet. Having an unsecured website could cause more issues than just a poor reputation from Google. Your visitors may no longer trust your website.

Communication over HTTPS is encrypted between the visitor's browser and our doctor's website - so it's not possible to eavesdrop, and no one steals or forges website data.

This is why NYK has enabled SSL and HTTPS for our ADJUSTable Websites. Proactively. For FREE !

We do this because we care about the security of our doctors and their patients. Website forms are now kept private from anyone attempting to sneak a peek. Internet history and data is kept away from snoopy internet service providers so patients can browse your website, read your articles, request appointments, subscribe to your newsletters, submit questions, and ask for information securely and privately.

Of course, not all HTTPS configurations are created equal. We have gone to great lengths to ensure our SSL implementation meets National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) cybersecurity guidelines, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements, and of course Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidance.
